Chapter 18: Rohan

I park in front of the warehouse and hop off my bike. I look at the time and it is well after midnight. The sun will rise in a few hours. My people stand around outside. They’re on security detail. I’ll never be the one to let my guard down. Not with proving my worth with my newly inherited empire.

I make way to the door. The guards acknowledge my presence and let me inside the building. This place is one of the many properties I prefer to keep empty and useless until I figure out what I will do with the building later on. It has its uses. Like now. The perfect location to extract information about Asha’s whereabouts. I must know where she is at and if she is okay. Then I need to find out why the hunters are aligning themselves with the Amarante after everything that had gone down. Asha’s family is only the beginning. I believe this with absolute certainty.

Inside the warehouse, Rowan and Rorik stand side by side, talking to each other. Both shifter and vampire guards are all over in strategic places. Their eyes and ears ever diligent in listening for enemies. It does not take long for my brothers to realize that I am here.

“Bring him over,” Rorik say to the guard closest to him. I move towards my brothers and wait. I assume the ‘him’ is the Chancellor they had captured.

“Glad you could join us,” Rowan says to me as he inspects me. “You’ve fed finally. And from the looks of it, you fed well.”

“I did.”

“Did the victim live or survive?”

“You know I only hunt the wicked. His death was well deserved.”

“Good... just like father taught us.” Rowan put his hands into his front pockets. “You’ve been acting strange lately. I was hoping it didn’t affect your hunting habits. We can’t have you going feral on us. I’d hate to put you down.”

Before I could reply, two of the shifters came back, dragging a man between them. They bound his legs and feet. Useless, and not able to walk. The sound of his clothes scrapes against the debris-filled floor and his bloody, beat up face hangs down. His grayed stringy, long hair is low, covering his downcast eyes. Rorik bring out a small metal chair, and the guards shoves the man onto the seat.

He grunts and snaps at the shifters, but they ignore him. I watch as they pull his arms behind the chair and tied them up, popping the shoulder out of place. My captor cries out in pain, and I do not care. My brothers and I don’t even flinch. I gesture to the shifters to move back, and they did. We don’t have much time, and I want to find out as much as I can.

I step towards the man who helped cause all of this trouble for my woman. If she will have me. I stop just a foot away from him. He still won’t look up, but I can fix that.
